Animal Fun in the Caribbean

If you love animals, then you’ll love going on a Caribbean cruise as you’ll get the opportunity to spend time with various animals at different ports of call around the Caribbean. Here are some of the best shore excursions to have some animal fun while cruising the Caribbean.

Underwater Adventure in Cozumel

Cozumel has some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean thanks to the plethora of colorful fish, coral, turtles, and more within the clear water surrounding the Mexican island. Enjoy some snorkel time while in port and get even deeper thanks to an underwater helmet that allows you to walk on the bottom of the ocean floor on the Blue Water SeaTrek Helmet Diving and Snorkel shore excursion.

Horseback Riding in the Sea

Explore the shores of Jamaica via horseback on the Chukka Horseback Ride N Swim excursion. You’ll mount a horse bareback and the gentle animal will walk and trot as you navigate your way through a farm village before arriving at the ocean where you will plunge into the water while still on the horse for an exhilarating animal and Caribbean Sea experience.

Stingray Swim

Swim with friendly stingrays at the beloved Stingray City while in port in George Town in the Grand Caymans. Stingray City is a shallow area of the sea where dozens upon dozens of stingrays congregate each day. They will allow you to touch them and swim alongside them, which you can do as part of the Catamaran Sail and Stingray City shore excursion. Your guide during the excursion will teach you the safe way to interact with the stingrays before you get in the water.

Escape to warmer weather and frolic with animals soon on last minute Caribbean sailings. Contact your local travel agent today to find the itinerary that is perfect for you.

Best 2015 Alaska Itineraries for SoCal Residents

Alaska is an excellent and convenient cruise destination for southern Californians thanks to easy to get to departure ports and a rugged, icy scenery that is so different from our own warm coastline. Alaska is also a great destination choice for first-time cruisers. Here are the top three Alaska itineraries in 2015 that southern Californians will enjoy:

San Francisco Getaway

Millennium at Hubbard Glacier - AlaskaCelebrity Solstice - Celebrity Cruises

This summer, Celebrity Cruises now has a small number of Alaska cruises departing from San Francisco. The May 15 sailing is the best bet for SoCal residents looking for a good value as the cruise also ends in San Francisco, meaning a cheap roundtrip air ticket to get to and from your cruise.  The itinerary for this sailing includes stops in Ketchikan and Juneau in Alaska, plus stops in Astoria, Oregon and Victoria, British Columbia in addition to cruising some of Alaska’s icy straits and fjords.

Family Friendly From Seattle

Another flight that won’t break the bank is one to Seattle and Celebrity Cruises has roundtrip cruises onboard the award-winning Celebrity Solstice that depart from Seattle all summer long. The 7-night June 26 Alaska sailing that visits Ketchikan, Seward, and Juneau is a good one for families as your kids are likely out of school but won’t be too entrenched in a summer routine. Plus, you’ll be back at the beginning of July just in time for June Gloom to end and the ocean to start getting warmer.

Stay up North Longer

Want to experience some cool weather after all the warm, sunny SoCal summer days, soon to turn into warm, sunny fall days? Pick one of the September sailings to try to catch the first signs of Alaska’s impending winter. In particular, the sailing out of Seward, Alaska that departs September 4 gets you to more Alaska ports of call so you’ll be up north longer.

Visit to find the Alaska cruise itinerary that’s right for you or talk to your local travel agent. When booking, be sure to check out our ChoiceAir options, which often has flights that are cheaper when purchased with your cruise than what you can find on your own. Also, book before February 1, 2015, and take advantage of the current 123Go promotion that gives you a free beverage package, free gratuities, and shipboard credit if you book a veranda stateroom onboard a 2015 Alaska cruise.

Go Bicycling in Santa Barbara…and Amsterdam

Do It Here, Then Do It There…

If you’re a Southern California resident who loves to cycle around town, then you’ll love heading up to Santa Barbara one weekend and renting a bicycle to explore the extremely bike-friendly downtown. But don’t stop there…take your cycling prowess all the way to Amsterdam, a European cruise port city that also caters to bicyclists.

Biking in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, California
Santa Barbara, California

The main street in Santa Barbara is State Street, which runs right through the middle of downtown. State Street is home to cafes, restaurants and shops with wide sidewalks and pretty buildings, and it also happens to accommodate bicycles with plenty of bike racks to lock up your bikes as you explore the town. The side streets around Santa Barbara are also pretty to bike around with lots of trees, peeks of the ocean, and cute little bungalow-style houses.

Be sure to also stop at the historic Santa Barbara Courthouse and take the elevator to its roof for gorgeous views of Santa Barbara and the surrounding hills and Pacific Ocean.

Several services offering hourly bike rentals are available near State Street along Cabrillo Boulevard or you can strap your own bike to your car and bring it with you.

Cycling Around Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands Bicycles
Amsterdam, Netherlands

Travelers to Amsterdam will find a bustling city full of historic sites, such as the Van Gogh Museum and Ann Frank House. The city also has a scenic canal lazily drifting through the middle of it. One of the best ways to spend a day in Amsterdam is to explore the sites (which you can do via an Amsterdam shore excursion) and then rent a bicycle and spend a couple hours biking along the canal. Take a break to grab a cup of coffee in one Amsterdam’s many cafes or enjoy a beer at the famous Heineken Museum. You won’t need to worry about your bicycle – there are plenty of bike racks around the city to park it. Bikes are treated practically like cars in Amsterdam because cycling to get around is so prevalent, so don’t be surprised if you hear some honking…coming from a bicycle!

If you’re interested in cruising to Amsterdam, check out Celebrity Cruises’ excellent Northern Europe itineraries that stop in Amsterdam or contact your local travel agent.

If You Love Pinot Provence, You’ll Love Murano Onboard Celebrity Cruises

Find French Cuisine in OC at Pinot Provence…then at Sea with Celebrity Cruises

Pinot Provence in Costa Mesa has a name that evokes thoughts of walks through vineyards in France, and though the acclaimed restaurant won’t transport you to France, it will provide you with a sumptuous atmosphere, French cuisine, and an excellent glass – or bottle – of wine. Pinot Provence is located in the Westin Plaza and if you’re a SoCal resident who hasn’t dined there yet, you should definitely get yourself seated at a table at Pinot Provence sometime soon (the upcoming Orange County Restaurant Week is a great time to do so). You’ll find yourself dining on award-winning cuisine that includes the likes of lamb cassoulet, maple leaf duck breast, escargots Provençal, frog legs, and an array of gourmet seafood dishes. As you dine, you’ll enjoy a rustic chic ambiance with stellar service.

Murano Restaurant Onboard Celebrity Cruises

If you love Pinot Provence – or it sounds like the type of place you would love to dine at – then you also won’t want to miss out on experiencing Murano Restaurant…but you’ll have to head out to sea to do so. Murano is a luxurious restaurant onboard select Celebrity Cruises ships that offers a fine dining setting with high-end French cuisine.

Fine dining, gourmet French cuisine, and fun socializing at Murano Restaurant.
Fine dining, gourmet French cuisine, and fun socializing at Murano Restaurant.

Celebrity Cruises has a number of sailings that stop in ports of France and the chefs onboard pull ideas for Murano’s menu from the traditional cuisine of France while adding contemporary twists to dishes in order to keep diners pleasantly surprised and provide a memorable dining experience.  Try the phyllo baked Anjou pear with Roquefort cheese for an appetizer and the Châteaubriand or Loup de Mer for your main course. There is also a caviar, cheese, and dessert course. You may even order an item that is flambeed tableside for some fine dining entertainment.

Loup de Mer at Murano.
Loup de Mer at Murano.

Perhaps best of all, this gourmet dinner will only set you back $25, a small fraction of what you’d pay for a similar dining experience on land. It’s one of the many perks of life at sea that you’ll encounter during a Celebrity cruise. After dining at Murano, you’ll leave feeling full and blissfully satisfied by your meal, and — if your cruise stops in the Marseille port of call in France — ready to explore the Provence countryside that Pinot Provence back at home makes you dream of. If you’re interested in booking a Celebrity cruise and experiencing the culinary delights of Murano or the gorgeous landscape of Provence in France, visit us at or contact your local travel agent to book your cruise.

Best Burgers in SoCal

Living in SoCal means living by some excellent burgers. Here are a few of the best burgers you can eat in Southern California.

Slater’s 50/50
It’s all in the name. Slater’s 50/50 is a Southern California restaurant chain that has rapidly grown in popularity thanks to that percentage in its name, which refers to its beloved hamburger patty that is 50% beef and 50% bacon. Their slogan is “burgers by design” and that rings true with the over 40 toppings — which doesn’t even include the myriad of cheese and sauce choices — you can add to your hefty beef and bacon patty, including Fritos, peanut butter, pickled beets, and grilled pineapple. You can also choose what kind of bread (try the bacon pretzel bun!) and patty you want to customize your burger with. In addition to the 50/50, Slater’s offers Carne Asada, beef only, chicken, veggie, turkey, Portabello mushroom, and a meat of the month for patty options. If building your own burger sounds too overwhelming, you can pick from Slater’s specialty burger menu instead, which already has gourmet burger ingredients expertly put together. Slater’s has a sports bar atmosphere with plenty of TVs hung up and comfortable, inviting tables. Slater’s 50/50 has numerous locations around SoCal. Try the Huntington Beach location, which has a fun, beachy atmosphere. There are two others centrally located in Orange County in Lake Forest and Anaheim, plus locations in San Diego, San Marcos, Rancho Cucamonga, and Pasadena.

Rocky’s Crown Pub
Rocky’s Crown Pub is located in the Crown Point neighborhood of Pacific Beach (PB), one of the beach communities of San Diego known for its bars and party atmosphere. However, Crown Point has a more laidback atmosphere compared to lively Garnet Street in PB and the vibe inside cash-only Rocky’s reflects that. Walk in and you’ll find a simple room of wooden tables, lined with a bar on one side and a few televisions on the wall. Some open windows are in the front of the bar but they don’t do much to lighten the place up. It’s a dive bar through and through. And oh yeah – this dive bar cooks up incredible hamburgers. Rocky’s Crown Pub only has hamburgers on its menu — always a good sign you’re in for something special. They’re served one way with tomatoes and lettuce on the side and the option of cheese. Ketchup and mustard bottles are already on the tables. In a world of gourmet burgers, it’s the simplicity that makes Rocky’s stand out — and the flavorful, juicy, cooked-to-perfection patty.

Sometimes your basic burger won’t cut it, and that’s when you head to Stout in Los Angeles. Stout specializes in two things: craft burgers and craft beers. The burger part of the menu features creative options with toppings and patty fillings ranging from roasted tomatoes to Fig jam to prosciutto plus a variety of artisan cheeses, including Brie and aged cheddar. It’s hard to go wrong with the eatery’s namesake, the Stout Burger, which features Stout’s ground in-house beef topped with rosemary bacon, caramelized onions, tomatoes, horseradish cream, blue cheese, and emi gruyere. Stout also serves organic chicken and veggie burgers. Recommended beer pairings on the menu for each burger adds to the fun of eating at Stout. Stout has three locations in Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Studio City.
