Style Week Design Competition Before and After: Sketches and Runway

We just finished up two incredible rounds of our Celebrity Cruises Design Competition for Style Week OC. We partnered up with designers at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) who created eight amazing outfits inspired by Celebrity Cruises ships and vacations. We’ve displayed them all below with the original sketch, the outfit modeled during Style Week OC fashion shows at Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum, and an image of the part of the ship or world that inspired the outfit. We lead and end the photo montage with the two winning designs. Tell us your favorite outfit at the end!

Craft Beer Experiences at Home and with Celebrity Cruises

Drink it Here, Then Drink it There…Craft Beer Edition

Book a Celebrity Cruises vacation and you have three ways to enjoy craft beer.

Enjoy Craft Breweries in SoCal Before Your Trip

First, drink it in Southern California before you leave for your trip — which you’re probably already doing since the region is home to so many excellent craft beers.

A few favorite places in Southern California to try new microbrews include:

Stone Brewing Company: Head down to Escondido to try some of Stone’s famously hoppy IPAs in a garden setting.

Bootlegger’s Brewery: Located in Fullerton, this brewery is known for its creative brews, which you can try in the tasting room. Plus, Bootlegger’s welcomes your dog companion into the tasting room, too.

Beachwood Brewing: This brewery has a socal vibe and serves up some excellent beers made onsite — plus you can pair them with some of the BBQ food that Beachwood is also known for. Choose from two locations: Seal Beach or Long Beach.

Drink Some Brews While Onboard

Next, drink it onboard your Celebrity Cruises ship during your vacation. The onboard Gastrobar pours over 40 different kinds of boutique beers and serves gastropub-style food as well. The onboard lounge, Michael’s Club, also has a selection of craft beers that you can enjoy in an upscale, comfortable environment.

Try Some New Beers While in Port

Third, try some local beers while in port. This is easier to do depending on the itinerary you choose.

Alaska cruises stop in Juneau, home to Alaskan Brewing Company; Skagway, where Gold Rush Brewery is located; and Anchorage, where you can visit Anchorage Brewing Company. These breweries have tasting rooms and tours of the beer making facilities that you can take.

In Europe, opt for a Baltic Sea cruise as opposed to the Mediterranean to get your fill of good beer. Baltic cruises stop in beer-cenric ports like London, England; Rostock (Berlin), Germany; Zeebrugge, Belgium; and Copenhagen, Denmark. A highlight for many beer lovers during a Baltic cruise is a stop in Amsterdam where you can tour the massive and interactive Heineken brewery — not exactly a craft beer, but still a bonus for beer lovers while cruising.

Celebrity Cruises Design Competition for Style Week OC — See the Outfits!

It was a fashionable Saturday at Fashion Island in Newport Beach this past weekend thanks to Style Week OC.

Celebrity Cruises is an official sponsor for Style Week OC and we were excited to be part of the VIP party that evening in the middle of the courtyard by Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales in Fashion Island, plus be a big part of the Fashion Show that evening.

The Fashion Show was hosted by Nick Verreos of Project Runway fame and consisted of top fashions being walked down the vibrant runway by a bevy of models. The highlight, though, was the Celebrity Cruises Design Competition. We partnered up with FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) to have four of the institution’s students design resort wear inspired by different parts of Celebrity Cruises’ ships. At the end of the runway show, one outfit (and its designer) would be declared the winner by a panel of judges and get a $2,000 prize.

First was a vibrant yellow shirt and pant set designed by Peivand Mirzaie and inspired by the Shopping Galleria and Qsine Restaurant onboard Celebrity ships.

Up next was Francesca Lake’s elegant and modern design, which pulled elements from the Luminae dining room that is part of the Suite Class onboard Celebrity’s ships.

A long, sleek Lawn Club inspired garment was next down the runway, designed by Lilit Markosyan, which was followed by a fun, boxy Liquid Lounge inspired dress by  Ali Jawad.

After the Celebrity Cruises Design Competition, more styles came down the runway.

Then it was time to hear the judges decision.

The winner was Francesca Lake with her Luminae inspired pantsuit!

Want to be part of more of the Celebrity Cruises #StyleWeekOC fun? Head to Irvine Spectrum this Saturday to see another Style Week OC Fashion Show. This time it will feature the fashions of stores at Irvine Spectrum plus FIDM designs inspired by Celebrity Cruises’ itineraries.

You can also experience the allure of the Caribbean after dusk with an evening excursion or dinner in port. Or before dusk, head to a romantic beach and catch the sunset.
