Can you guess where in the world this destination is from the clues below?

Word Clue

This vibrant, colorful city with its unique architecture has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with buildings from the late 1600s. Archeologists have found remnants of ancient settlements dating back to 950 AD. The historic city center consists of four quarters which are divided by an inlet that leads into the large natural harbor. Due to its proximity to oilfields, its political stability and its natural deep water harbor, this town became the site of an important seaport and refinery. The harbor remains one of the largest oil handling ports in its region.

This destination is also home to a bridge that you had to pay a toll to cross until the mid-1900s — anyone who was wearing shoes had to pay the toll (2 cents). As a result, wealthy people took off their shoes to avoid having to pay, and poor people who couldn’t afford shoes borrowed a pair from the rich and paid the 2 cents to cross the bridge, to maintain a sense of pride. Today there are 65 different nationalities living in this city of 150,000 residents.

Willemstad, Curaçao

The island of Curacao is the largest and most populous of the three ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) in the Lesser Antilles. Curaçao is located just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. Celebrity Cruises visits Curaçao on a variety of Dutch Antilles, Ultimate Caribbean, and Exotic Caribbean itineraries.

Cruise Port Spotlight: Skagway, Alaska

Skagway, Alaska is located on the southeast strip of Alaska, and a cruise is a great way to visit this vibrant little city along Alaska’s famous Inside Passage water route.

Skagway is located north of Juneau, Alaska, and is a popular stop for Alaska cruise itineraries sailing the Inside Passage. Skagway is a fun town to wander in since it has an old wild west feel to it thanks to the building facades on the main street and an emphasis put on its gold rush past.

If your cruise stops there, here’s what you need to know about spending a day in this rugged port of call.

Getting into the Port of Skagway

The port of Skagway is a compact port to navigate, making it easy to get around and explore during your time in Skagway. Skagway has three docks and if cruising with Celebrity Cruises, your ship will likely pull into port at the Railroad Dock, which is an easy 10-15 minute walk from the main part of town.

Things to Do in Skagway

The Klondike Gold Rush that began in 1897 played an important part in Skagway’s history. At the Klondike Gold Rush National Park you can learn about this time period and how it influenced the town. This isn’t a typical park as it is more than just greenery – it also includes a historic building area where you can see preserved buildings from the Gold Rush era. The nature highlight of the park is Chilkoot Trail, which leads hikers to the Yukon goldfields. The entire hike is 33 miles one way, so the whole hike is not something you can achieve while in Skagway for a day, but you can explore the part of it close to the trailhead during your cruise port of call in Skagway.

Glacier Hike

Part of the thrill of Alaska is seeing monstrous glaciers, and Skagway is close to Harding Glacier and Denver Glacier The best way to hike one of the glaciers is to partake in a shore excursion that takes you there, either via train and a hike or a view-filled helicopter ride. You can even do a shore excursion that combines a helicopter ride to Denver Glacier and dog sledding.

A Vintage Train Ride

Amble over to the historic train depot where you can jump on a vintage train run by the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad and take it through mass forests and up the mountainside for gorgeous views. Turn your train ride into an adventure with the White Pass Railway and Trail Camp Adventure shore excursion, which adds on a jaunt down to a historic gold rush camp where you can try your hand at panning for gold.

Skagway by Water

Skagway isn’t just known for what’s on land. The water lapping at the port town’s edge is also great for exhilarating recreational and wildlife viewing opportunities. The Eagle Preserve Rafting Wildlife Quest shore excursion gets you out onto the water via an 18-foot raft, which your guide will navigate to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Watch for these majestic eagles flying overhead and also keep your eyes peeled on the shoreline for the chance to possibly see a bear or moose.

How You Can Visit Skagway on a Cruise

The Alaska cruise season goes from May to September. Celebrity Cruises currently has itineraries sailing to Skagway in 2018 on board the Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Millennium, and Celebrity Infinity. Itineraries depart from Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Seward, Alaska. Click here to view itineraries and find your perfect one.

Can you guess where in the world this destination is from the clues below?

Word Clue

Situated on a 15th century hunting ground, over 7 million bulbs are planted in this park creating a river of flowers covering an area of nearly 100 acres. Last year over 1.5 million visitors visited this park, yet only 22,000 residents live in this town. During the 17th and 18th centuries this town was home to many castles and estates of wealthy merchants and nobility. In the following centuries, nearly every castle was torn down to plant flowers.

Keukenhof “River of Flowers”, in Lisse, South Holland, Netherlands

Located less than 30 minutes from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport between Amsterdam and The Hague, Keukenhof is a famous spring garden that’s one of the most beautiful in the world. Each spring seven million tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths bloom in arrays of gorgeous colors. Keukenhof is open each year from mid-March to mid-May. Celebrity Cruises sails from Amsterdam on Scandinavia/Russia and Norwegian Fjords itineraries.

How Celebrity Cruises is Revamping Cruise Dining

If you’re one of the people out there who still think cruise dining consists of buffets with heaping piles of food, or uninspiring restaurant experiences, think again. Cruise cuisine and dining experiences on board are rapidly changing with innovative restaurants, gourmet cuisine, and fresh, local ingredients.

Dining on cruise ships is becoming a destination unto itself, and Celebrity Cruises is leading the way. Here are just some of the ways Celebrity Cruises is revamping cruise dining.

The Main Dining Room

The Main Dining Room on Celebrity Cruises feels like a luxurious 5-star restaurant. The menu changes nightly and features gourmet cuisine, often inspired by the region you’re currently sailing through.

Wine stored in the Celebrity Cruises wine tower onboard Solstice-class ships.

You’ll be seated at a white-clothed table on one of two floors circling the central attraction: a two-story wine tower.

When you order a bottle of wine with dinner and don’t finish it, your sommelier (yes, a sommelier comes around to each table every night to recommend wine pairings with your dinner) will expertly seal your bottle of wine and save it for you at the optimal temperature in that wine tower.

When you’re ready for it again later in your trip, your sommelier will deliver it to your table. You can even request having it delivered to you at a specialty restaurant if you’re not eating in the main dining room the next evening!

Specialty Restaurants

Gorgeous decor and healthy cuisine in Blu Restaurant.
Blu Restaurant

Celebrity Cruises offers a variety of specialty restaurants on board its fleet of ships and each ship has up to a dozen specialty restaurants to choose from. These specialty restaurants typically cost a bit extra, but they are still a fraction of the cost of what you would pay for similar caliber restaurants on land.

These specialty restaurants are ideal for guests who want a change of scenery from the main dining room. With cuisine ranging from Italian (Tuscan Grille) to French (Murano) to Asian (Silk Harvest and Sushi on Five), you’re bound to find some flavors you’re in the mood for. There’s also a grill-your-own-steak (Lawn Club Grill) house, raw bar (The Porch), and creative cuisine you’ll have to experience for yourself (Qsine).

Guests staying in Aqua Class staterooms also get special access to a spa-inspired restaurant called Blu, which has an aesthetic inspired by the islands of the Mediterranean, and serves up healthy cuisine that doesn’t compromise on taste.

Luminae Restaurant
Luminae Restaurant

Suite guests can also access Luminae, a specialty restaurant just for passengers staying in one of the luxurious suite-class staterooms and is included in the price of your suite. You’ll find high-end ingredients and a chic setting with menu options found nowhere else on board.

One of a Kind Experiences

Celebrity Cruises’ new ship, Celebrity Edge, offers unique dining experiences you can’t find anywhere else.

Magic Carpet on Celebrity Edge
Magic Carpet on Celebrity Edge

The first one you can’t miss since you’ll see it as soon as you set eyes on the ship. Celebrity Edge has a cantilevered “magic carpet” room positioned on the side of the ship. The Magic Carpet moves up and down the side of the ship throughout the day and when it’s positioned on Deck 16, it serves as a thrilling restaurant with delicious cuisine and drinks that you’ll enjoy literally right over the sea.

The other dining experience that stands out for its individuality on Celebrity Edge is Eden, a 3-deck tall space that is accented by a wall of windows overlooking the sea. In the evenings, Eden is transformed into an other-worldly garden atmosphere and guests will be guided throughout the space as they eat their meal in an interactive setting served to them by “Edenists.” Just like the setting, the food is also creatively presented and full of surprises.

Celebrity Cruises Dining Attire

Tuscan Grille Restaurant Onboard Celebrity Cruises

You don’t have to worry about a stiff dress code or packing an evening gown on Celebrity Cruises…unless you want to! Celebrity Cruises has changed its Formal Nights to Evening Chic Nights. On these nights ladies can still wear that evening gown and get all dolled up if you want to because that’s all part of the fun, or you can wear a cocktail dress or simply a skirt, pants, or designer jeans with an elegant top – show off your style! Men can wear pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button down shirt, or sweater – or feel free to get even fancier with your attire.

On other nights, Celebrity Cruises has a Smart Casual dress code.  Ladies can wear a dress, slacks, blazers, jeans, or skirts with casual tops. Men can wear pants or jeans with a sport shirt with sleeves.

About that Buffet…

Oh, and if you still want to experience a cruise ship buffet, don’t worry – the Lido deck is open for three meals a day. Just don’t dine there expecting the status quo; you’ll find tasty cuisine with fine ingredients, including custom-prepared meal options, globally themed evenings, and even sushi on select nights.

To book your Celebrity cruise and start salivating over what you’ll eat during your trip, visit www.CelebrityCruises.com or speak with your travel agent.

Can you guess where in the world this destination is from the clues below?

Word Clue

Located on the western shore of this island lies a hidden gem of immeasurable natural beauty. Home to ancient mountains and spectacular ocean views, this area will take your breath away. First surveyed by a renowned British explorer, this small city is a gateway to outdoor adventure from hiking and fishing to kayaking and whale watching.

Most amazing is that this area is well known for the large number of giant icebergs that float on the same route every spring. Surprising as it may seem, these giant icebergs casually pass by small towns on this island, extremely close to the shore which creates a seemingly surreal landscape which looks more like the set of a Science-Fiction movie. This spring alone, more than 1,000 icebergs (some over 150 feet tall) casually floated by this island.

Newfoundland is the 16th largest island in the world and is located off the east coast of mainland Canada. Ferryland is located on Newfoundland’s southeast coast and is famous for its Iceberg Alley.

If you’re interested in learning more about Newfoundland and exploring this island that was originally discovered by Captain James Cook in the 1760s, check out a Celebrity Cruises sailing. Celebrity Cruises visits Corner Brook, Newfoundland on various Canada/New England cruises each fall.

South Pacific Cruise Ports West Coasters Will Love

Don’t miss out on these cruise ports in Australia, New Zealand, and beyond

The South Pacific is sometimes overlooked when it comes to cruise destinations, but this gorgeous part of the world shouldn’t be. For guests on a Celebrity Cruises sailing around the South Pacific, the focal point of the region is typically the magnificent ports of Australia and New Zealand. Here are some of the ports west coasters will especially enjoy when cruising this area of the South Pacific.

If You Love Napa, California…
You’ll Love a Cruise to Picton, New Zealand

Picton is similar to the city of Napa in that it has a charming and walkable downtown area with restaurants and art galleries, and it is also a good jumping off point to world-class wines. For Picton, that wine region is Marlborough where you can sample the crisp, fruity flavors of the region’s beloved Sauvignon Blanc plus many other varietals.

If You Love San Francisco, California…
You’ll Love a Cruise to Sydney, Australia

Sydney Opera House
Sydney Opera House

San Francisco has the iconic Golden Gate Bridge amidst harbor views while Sydney has the Sydney Opera House gleaming against a water and sky filled frame. But just like in San Francisco, that’s not all there is to see in Sydney, and city lovers will find endless entertainment during a cruise in this cosmopolitan city. Partake in Sydney excursions that let you experience both historic and modern architecture, cuisine and wines, various forms of art, and even world-class beaches.

If You Love Cannon Beach, Oregon…
You’ll Love a Cruise to Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart, Tasmania
Hobart, Tasmania

The Oregon coast is home to rugged beaches, scenic lookout points, delicious oysters, and cute towns to walk through. Its close proximity to Willamette Valley also means it’s easy to find local wine or even a wine tasting shop. If you love those aspects of the Oregon coast, you’ll also enjoy a day in Hobart, Tasmania, a unique island off the coast of Australia where you’ll find panoramic mountainous views, wineries, historic architecture, and fresh oysters.

If You Love Hawaii…
You’ll Love a Cruise to Cairns, Australia

Cairns, Australia is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with colorful underwater life that offers some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world. Like Hawaii, it also has natural wonders on land as well. Visit a relaxing beach or hike through the Daintree rainforest.

If You Love Seattle, Washington….
You’ll Love a Cruise to Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand
Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland has a large harbor, happening dining scene, a sea life aquarium, and even a space needle! Ok, not quite on the last one, but Auckland is home to the Sky Tower, which slightly resembles Seattle’s famous Space Needle due to its skinny base and circular viewing tower. You can see all of Auckland’s best sites during a city highlights excursion while visiting.

If You Love…well…Anywhere By the Ocean…
You’ll Love a Cruise to French Polynesia

Select Australia and New Zealand itineraries for Celebrity Cruises also make detours to the lush, exotic islands of French Polynesia. In French Polynesia, cruisers who visit the main island of Tahiti can explore its bustling market or head to one of its seaside resorts for the day. If your cruise stops in Bora Bora, you definitely don’t want to miss getting in the clear, warm lagoon that glistens in mesmerizing shades of turquoise.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Most travelers know the French Quarter is the one place not to miss in New Orleans, but there’s so much more to the French Quarter than Bourbon Street and so much more to New Orleans than the French Quarter.

In addition to the French Quarter, some other sites not to miss in the Big Easy include:

  1. New Orleans Cemeteries including St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, home to New Orleans’ fascinating above-ground tombs. As the city is built below sea level, New Orleanians are unable to be buried underground. NOLA’s Catholic founders were against the idea of cremation, thus creating the necessity for these “cities of the dead.”
  2. New Orleans Jazz Clubs
  3. Café du Monde – the quintessential New Orleans spot to enjoy hot, crispy, sugar-dusted beignets paired with chicory-infused cafe au lait.
  4. Walking through the Garden District with its gracious mansions and Magnolia trees.

Celebrity Equinox visits New Orleans during Mardi Gras each February as part of a 10-night Mardi Gras and Caribbean cruise, featuring three days and two overnights in New Orleans as part of Celebrity’s Signature Event Sailings. Guests will hear jazz performers and speakers onboard before the ships docks in NOLA for Mardi Gras. Nothing beats using the ship as your hotel and catching colorful beads on Bourbon Street as the excitement of Mardi Gras floats right past your grandstand!

What if during that hectic time you had a travel professional who was working with the airlines on your behalf free of charge to make sure you get on the first available flight that will get you to your cruise?

That scenario probably sounds much more appealing and it’s what happens for travelers sailing with Celebrity Cruises who book their airfare through Flights by Celebrity.

Top 10 Reasons to Cruise on Celebrity Edge

If you’ve been researching a cruise vacation, look no further. Here are 10 reasons why you should set sail on board Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, Celebrity Edge.

You Love What’s New and Cutting Edge

When Celebrity Edge debuts in 2018, it’s destined to be a game-changer for the cruise industry thanks to its modern resort ambiance that blends together indoor and outdoor space like never before on a cruise ship. From staterooms to dining to entertainment, nothing on Celebrity Edge will be status quo and you’ll find delightful pockets of innovation and luxury wherever you are on board.

The Magic Carpet

Magic Carpet on Celebrity Edge
Magic Carpet on Celebrity Edge

The Magic Carpet instantly distinguishes Celebrity Edge from other ships before you ever even step on board thanks to its cantilevered position on the side of the ship. In the evenings, the Magic Carpet turns into a luxurious restaurant when it “floats” up to Deck 16. You’ll get the amazing chance to dine right over the open water. Get ready for some incredible views from your table. The Magic Carpet also moves to other decks throughout the day, becoming an extension of the pool area on Deck 14 at times, and an al fresco extension of another specialty restaurant on Deck 5.

Destination Gateway

The Magic Carpet isn’t only for dining. It also serves as a relaxing and luxurious waiting area, referred to as the Destination Gateway, for passengers to sit and chat until their tender boat comes to collect them and take them ashore during port days. Plus, you won’t be boarding any normal tender while sailing Celebrity Edge; instead you’ll step into one of the Edge Launches, a covered, air-conditioned boat with bucket seats and large windows for prime viewing of your new destination.

Outdoor Ambiance

Celebrity Edge's Pool Deck
Celebrity Edge’s Pool Deck

Celebrity Edge is all about the outdoor space, whether it’s through stateroom or suite verandahs, al fresco dining, or open deck space. Two places the outdoor ambiance of the ship really stands out, though, is the Pool Deck and Rooftop Garden.

Celebrity Edge’s modern Pool Deck has panoramic windows positioned to make viewing the passing sea and land formations easy to take in. Plus, two raised hot tubs shaped like martini glasses give passengers another amazing vantage point for taking in those glistening ocean views. The Pool Deck also has luxurious cabanas lining one side of it, which can be rented out by guests.

The Rooftop Garden keeps the nature aspect from the Solstice-Class’ Lawn Club by adorning the area with greenery tended to by a resident horticulturist. Throughout the day, games and activities are conducted in the Rooftop Garden and at night it transforms into an entertainment venue for live music and Celebrity Cruises’ popular “A Taste of Film” experience, which combines an al fresco meal and movie.

Eden: Dining Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Eden, an innovative space on Celebrity Edge

All of the dining experiences on Celebrity Edge offer upscale settings with gourmet ingredients. Eden, however, stands out – and not just from the other restaurants on board Celebrity Edge, but from all cruise ship dining. Eden is a transformative and interactive dining experience that takes place in a special space on the ship that extends over three decks with a background of glass windows. It is decorated to reflect a nature wonderland and when you’re dining there, “Edenists” come around to entertain you and serve you your dinner. The cuisine itself will be experiential with elements of surprise and is incorporated into the whole experience — this isn’t your typical sit-down restaurant dining experience.

Designer Touches

The look and design of Celebrity Edge was led by internationally renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen and prestigious architect Tom Wright. Popular designer Nate Berkus was also brought on to serve as Celebrity Edge’s design ambassador. You’ll see their expert design style all throughout the ship, giving it a contemporary vibe with artistic flair.

Luxurious Staterooms

Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda
Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda

The staterooms on Celebrity Edge are modern and spacious. 99% of the rooms on Celebrity Edge have king size beds plus you’ll find larger bathrooms, more storage space for your belongings, and spacious living areas. Celebrity Edge offers inside and outside staterooms (the latter of which have windows looking out to the sea), but its true stateroom claim to fame are the unique Infinite Veranda staterooms. The Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda features state-of-the-art doors that open completely to let you bring the sea air right into your stateroom, and so you can effortlessly step to the railing and see the views that await you. Outdoor ambiance is now a prominent fixture for many of the staterooms and suites on Celebrity Edge.

Jaw-Dropping Suites

Iconic Suite Veranda on Celebrity Edge
Iconic Suite Veranda on Celebrity Edge

The suites on board Celebrity Edge will give you extra space while continuing to offer innovative and private outdoor areas. If you really want to douse yourself in luxury during your cruise, consider the Celebrity Edge’s Iconic Suites or Edge Villas.

The 2-bedroom Iconic Suites are nearly 2,600 square feet in size and feature panoramic windows in the bedrooms and living spaces plus a 700-foot, 270-degree ocean view verandah, all of which will have you relaxing to pleasurable ocean views no matter where you are in the suite.

The Edge Villas also have amazing ocean views, with 2-story windows and a private plunge pool on the verandah. Yes, picture that right now…looking out at the vast blue sea from your own private plunge pool. Guests staying in Edge Villas also have direct walk-out access to the Retreat Sundeck, a private area of the ship just for suite guests, which has a pool, lounge, and specialty restaurant.

Tropical Itineraries

Cruise ship in the Caribbean, St. Maarten

Celebrity Edge’s first sailing will depart December 16, 2018, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which will also serve as Celebrity Edge’s homeport. Celebrity Edge will offer two different itineraries from Fort Lauderdale. One will be an Eastern Caribbean cruise that visits San Juan, Puerto Rico; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The other itinerary option sails around the Western Caribbean and stops in Key West, Florida; Costa Maya, Mexico; Cozumel, Mexico; and George Town, Grand Cayman. You can visit all ports of call and make your vacation a 14-night one by booking back-to-back sailings.

A Good Cause

Celebrity Cruises has partnered up with the Malala Foundation, which strives to bring a 12-year education to all girls. The foundation was started by 19-year old Malala Yousafzai, who is a Nobel Laureate and U.N. Messenger of Peace. She is also the Godmother of Celebrity Edge.

The Great Blue Hole in Belize

The hole is circular in shape, nearly 1,000 feet wide and 400 feet deep. The hole was formed over 150,000 years ago (based on analysis of stalactites). As the ocean began to rise, caves were flooded. The Great Blue Hole is now part of the larger Belize Barrier Reef System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the heart of Central America, Belize is bordered by Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the west and south.
