A note from Scott Clifton, Director of Market Sales at Celebrity Cruises:
I am very proud to work for a company who cares so much about its employees. Yesterday, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises) arranged for a delivery of water to every employee in South Florida. A much appreciated gesture given how water is in such short supply and many stores are sold out.
Then, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (RCL) closed all our South Florida offices for the next four days to permit our employees to prepare their homes for Irma’s arrival and prepare to evacuate if necessary.
The Latest Reveal for Celebrity Edge is a Transformative Lounge and Entertainment Space that Brings the Outside In
Tell us this: when you think of cruising, do these words come to mind?
Chillful. Playful. Sinful.
No? Well then, you’d better change your perception of cruising because the latest reveal of the new Celebrity Edge ship is delivering that and much more, so you’d also better get used to these words epitomizing your vacations at sea:
Modern. Luxurious. Immersive.
But back to those first three adjectives. They describe Eden, an incredible, action-filled dining experience Celebrity Cruises is offering on board Celebrity Edge.
The space for Eden on the ship is remarkable. It expands upwards across three decks with a background of glass windows (almost 7,000 square feet of glass!) and feels like a nature wonderland. The design for Eden even incorporates in the Fibonacci sequence, or “Golden Ratio,” a design pattern often found in nature and which has been incorporated into stunning works of art and architecture around the world. Now this pattern will be delighting passengers on Celebrity Edge.
Garden of Eden
Upon entering Eden, you’ll be met with an atmosphere that is nature-filled and like a garden. Beyond the interior ambiance are those glass windows, which provide panoramic views of the sea. After the sun goes down, the space turns inwards and sets the stage for a world-class performance that will amaze diners.
Start your morning on Celebrity Edge surrounded by a calm, natural oasis in Eden. Participate in Yoga or take a seat and enjoy a coffee while you gaze at the ocean or the hanging live plant pillars.
Enjoy the Eden environment in the afternoon while you take part in an enrichment seminar or class, like wine tasting or culinary demonstrations. You also may see an aerialist hanging from the ceiling because, again, this is no ordinary cruise space.
In the evenings, Eden is transformed into Eve at Eden, when the entire space comes alive through artistic performances and delectable cuisine, fused together to create an experience unlike nothing else at sea that will indulge all of the guests’ senses. The cuisine itself will be experiential with elements of surprise and is incorporated into the whole experience — this isn’t your typical sit-down restaurant dining experience.
The performance breaks all the “rules” of typical cruise ship entertainment. The characters, called “Edenists,” in this show are immersed among the audience and will even be serving your cuisine.
After the performance, guests can head up to deck 5 to a bar framed by an 18-foot Library of Plants where they can get a cocktail made that incorporates herbs straight from that library.
One thing that ensured Eden would live up to the vision Celebrity Cruises had come up with was to work with world renowned designers. That team was made up of architect Scott Butler and designer Patricia Urquoila. They used their years of expertise to create a space that is connected to the sea and is truly transformative, no matter what time of day guests visit it. Variety Worldwide, known for their unconventional theatrical performances like Queen of the Night, was also brought on to help put together an unforgettable theater journey that makes guests feel as if they are part of the performance. Don’t expect it to be like anything you’ve seen at sea – or beyond – before.
Celebrity Edge’s first sailing will depart December 16, 2018, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which will also serve as Celebrity Edge’s homeport. Celebrity Edge will offer two different itineraries from Fort Lauderdale. One will be an Eastern Caribbean cruise that visits San Juan, Puerto Rico; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The other itinerary option sails around the Western Caribbean and stops in Key West, Florida; Costa Maya, Mexico; Cozumel, Mexico; and George Town, Grand Cayman. Can you guess where in the world this destination is from the clues below?
This deep water port was founded in the 1800s by Welsh immigrants. Here you will find a magnificent wildlife sanctuary and UNESCO World Heritage Site, where vast numbers of sea elephants, whales and penguins far outnumber the few human visitors who make it out this far.
Every spring, whales make their way to this beach to give birth and feed their young, until the calves are old enough to make the journey to more southerly waters in November. These warm, quiet waters draw females, and because their calves won’t develop the protective blubber they need to keep them afloat for another 40 days after they are born, their mothers stick to the shallows, lifting their calves onto their fins to keep them afloat. It’s not uncommon to see these magnificent creatures as they swim close in to rest on the pebbled sea bottom. Because of a relatively steep drop off just off shore, these whales are literally just a few yards from shore, making this beach one of the best viewing areas in the world.

Puerto Madryn, Playa del Doradillo, Patagonia, Argentina
For six months out of the year, this beach might well be the best spot intheworld to view the amazing Southern Right Whale and their calves. There aren’t many experiences that bring you this close to enormous whales at peace in their natural habitat. It can truly be a spiritual moment of communion with nature. Celebrity Cruises visits Puerto Madryn on Argentina, Chile, and Antarctica sailings each year from January through March.
Can you guess where in the world this destination is from the word and picture clues below?
This famous steam train has been featured in several movies. The 84 mile journey crosses a 100 foot high viaduct with 21 arches. Right between the two mountains crossed on this beautiful route sits a majestic lake. The steam train was built in the late 1800s and has been crossing the West Coast of this country twice a day, ever since. Give yourself bonus points if you can name one of the movies that featured this famous steam train and viaduct.

Jacobite Steam Train and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, in Lochaber, Scotland
Everybody who has seen the Harry Potter movies remembers the legendary Hogwarts train, that leaves from Platform 9 ¾. Although its real name is the Jacobite Steam Train, the Scotland route is known as the Hogwarts train. The beautiful film scenery, though, is real.
The train route goes from Fort William to Mallaig, crossing the West Coast of Scotland. The most significant area of the 84-mile journey is the Glenfinnan viaduct, which has 21 arches. This is a well known spot from the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets movie. Because it was filmed during winter, it created a surreal scenery.
Yet another beautiful place is the Loch Shiel lake, which is right between the two mountains crossed by the route. The Jacobite Steam Train route also includes a special monument dedicated to Prince Charles at the Glenfinnman station. However, it is the interior of the train that creates an incredible experience for passengers.
Each compartment looks just as it did during the filming of the Harry Potter sequel. From old fashioned walls and comfortable seats to carriages and vintage doors, everything sends people to another world. Also, the train runs by the power of the steam, which improves the experience and creates the legendary white smoke often seen in the Harry Potter movies.
Even though the journey only lasts for one and a half hour, it is definitely worth the €32 fare. Scotland’s outstanding scenery, mountains, lakes, and the well known Glenfinnan viaduct, make this trip unforgettable. Celebrity Cruises visits Scotland on numerous British Isles sailings.
Winter is coming…and even if you live somewhere that gets a milder winter, there’s no denying the appeal of tropical islands or countries south of the equator that are currently celebrating summer during these North America winter months. Do you have your winter getaway planned yet? If not, here are some places to set off to for a blissful and relaxing cruise this winter – some of these places you might not expect to be able to cruise to so get ready to start daydreaming about some exotic travels.
Australia and New Zealand Cruises
While North America is hunkering down for winter, the South Pacific countries of Australia and New Zealand are basking in their summer. Though geographically close to each other, you’ll find Australia and New Zealand are quite different and makes it interesting to do a cruise to the region when you can effortlessly visit both countries, from the tropical wonderland of northeast Australia to the lush wildness of New Zealand’s South Island; and don’t forget about the Great Barrier Reef, vibrant Sydney (Australia’s capital), gorgeous Wellington (New Zealand’s capital), and the beautiful wine regions and beaches in driving distance of several of the cruise ports on a New Zealand and Australia cruise. Here are a few itineraries to check out this winter that visit New Zealand and Australia.
If New Zealand is your main focus this New Zealand Cruise (that sails roundtrip from Sydney) travels all the way around the country from the northern tip of the North Island and down and around the less-visited bottom curve of the South Island with many port stops along the way.
Looking to explore the amazing beaches and water of Australia? Then you’ll love the Great Barrier Reef Cruise that sails round the eastern and northern coast of Australia this winter.
South America Cruises
Another area south of the equator you can travel to and take advantage of a flip-flopped summer in this winter is South America. While Panama Canal cruise are often well touted, did you know you can also cruise to Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, and even Antarctica?
This special Brazil-focused cruise sails around the country plus has an overnight stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina. To make it even more exciting and memorable, this cruise coincides with Brazil’s famous and festive Carnaval celebration.
Want to visit all seven continents in your lifetime? This South America cruise departs from Argentina and takes you all the way to Schollart Channel, Paradise Bay, and Elephant Island in Antarctica, before heading onto the Falkland Islands and back north to Uruguay and Argentina.
Explore the western side of South America on this 15-night cruise that takes you from Fort Lauderdale all the way to Chile with stops in Panama, Ecuador, and Peru along the way.
Caribbean Winter Cruises
Then there is the glorious Caribbean. If you’re looking for a tropical island vacation to escape the winter cold, it’s hard to go wrong with the Caribbean. With dozens of islands that vary greatly in look and culture, there is an island that is the right fit for everyone. If you can’t decide between all those lovely islands, a cruise is the perfect way to go, as you’ll stop at several different islands. While in port, head to a beach to lounge on or partake in an adventurous shore excursion like ziplining over rainforest canopies, off-roading through jungles, or snorkeling in clear turquoise water.
Visit some of the Eastern and Southern Caribbean’s most beloved islands on this 7-night Caribbean cruise, that includes stops in Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. You’ll also start and end your cruise in Puerto Rico, meaning an ideal opportunity to take a couple extra days to explore charming San Juan and its surrounding beaches.
For those who want to experience the South Caribbean, but depart from mainland USA, there’s the 14-night Exotic Southern Caribbean Cruise itinerary that leaves from Miami, Florida, and does a roundtrip cruise to St. Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, and Barbados plus the extra sunny islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. (Aruba is particular is known for its more arid – rare for Caribbean islands!)
Want to leave from Florida and explore the Caribbean, but only have one week for your vacation? Check out the western Caribbean cruise itineraries that don’t have to travel as far from Florida embarkation ports, including this one that stops in Key West, Florida; Cozumel, Mexico; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; and Falmouth, Jamaica; before returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Packing Tips for a Spring or Fall Mediterranean Cruise + Why Shoulder Season Can Be the Best Time to Travel There
Think Mediterranean and you likely picture long, relaxing days by a warm, breezy beach or sun-dappled town. You might even be aware of the epic heat waves parts of the Mediterranean are known for in summer, and figure you’ll be all set with not much more than a swimsuit, shorts and t-shirts, and a sundress or two. Before you zip up that suitcase; however, keep in mind packing for the Mediterranean gets a bit more complicated if traveling during shoulder season (i.e. late spring or early fall…generally a month or two before and after the busy summer season when kids are out of school and when the masses are taking advantage of hot weather).
Luckily, the Mediterranean is an excellent place to travel to during shoulder season as the weather stays moderately pleasant, but there are still a few things to remember for what to pack when traveling to the Mediterranean via a cruise during shoulder season.
It’s going to be a bit colder than you think.
Sure, you may be expecting some autumn-like breezes, but they may be even colder than you expect once the sun goes down due to being by the sea since that tends to drop the chill factor. Expect the breeze to be even stronger when out at sea sailing between ports. So, while you won’t need that down parka, you probably will want a windbreaker and a warm cardigan to throw on. You want to make sure you can comfortably enjoy time hanging out at the Lawn Club or other outdoor spaces on board. A light rain jacket or poncho is also wise to pack as the Mediterranean does get rain, particularly in the spring months.
You’ll still want that swimsuit.
It may be cooler than the summer months, but chance are you’ll still have some marvelously warm days in port. So bring that swimsuit and enjoy some of the gorgeous Mediterranean beaches – just remember to also stick in a long-sleeve shirt in your daypack in case it gets a bit cooler before you’re back to the ship. On the ship, you’ll also want some pool attire since even on a particularly breeze day you can still enjoy lounging by the pool — this is because the pools are often situated on Celebrity ships so they’re protected from any strong winds meaning you can simply relax on a chair or float in the pool and bask in the hot Mediterranean sun.
Don’t forget two important things.
Sunglasses and sunscreen. It might not be the peak of summer sunshine, but you’ll still be experiencing a lot of it. Make sure you’re covered and protected by the sun by packing some sunscreen (and don’t worry – if you forget, you can get some at one of the shops on board your cruise ship). You also don’t want to be squinting at famous sights and monuments so bring a pair of sunglasses or a hat with a brim, too.
Why should you travel during shoulder season?
You may be wondering why it’s worth it to travel during shoulder season if you have to remember these extra things to pack. Here are two big reasons:
It’s way less crowded. Ok, you’re not going to be the only tourist at the Colosseum in Rome or walking around Oia, Santorini (and far from being the only one), but you’ll be surrounded by a fraction of the people you would be during the summer months. Once summer vacation time ends, the hordes and hordes of tourists disappear from the major sites, meaning you can enjoy the sights without having to push your way through crowds or needing to wait 10 minutes for your turn in a prime picture-taking spot.
It can get hot in the summer in Europe. We’re talking into the triple digits, particularly towards the end of July and during the month of August. That might be great if you’re just planning to lounge by a beach or pool, but if you’re hoping to walk around the quaint towns and visit the historic sites the Mediterranean is known for, you’re going to find that the heat is quite exhausting. Travel in the spring or fall months and increase your odds of avoiding 90+ degree temperatures in the Mediterranean.
Did you know Celebrity Cruises has a team of butlers onboard its ships? These European-style butlers are onboard to assist lucky cruisers sailing in suites. Here are some reasons why you may want to upgrade your stateroom to a butler suite.
Enjoy the Ship Faster
You won’t need to spend any time unpacking since your butler will do that for you – meaning you can go enjoy a drink on the sundeck or lounge in the spa and then come back to a well-organized room and your suitcase stowed out of sight. Your butler will help you to feel right at home in your suite. (Bonus! Your butler will also pack for you when your cruise is over.)
Help is on Speed Dial
Want a board game to play in your suite? Need a dinner reservation? Shoes looking a little scruffy and need a shine? Check, check, and check. Celebrity Cruises’ butlers will take care of these needs and more while you sail the sea.
Cuisine and Drinks as You Wish
Your butler will deliver tea and hors d’oeuvres to your room each evening for you to enjoy while you get ready for dinner. You can also arrange for your butler to bring you complimentary espresso and cappuccino if you need a pick-me-up at any point during your day. In addition, if you feel like a romantic dinner in your suite instead of one of the ship’s restaurants, you can order a full meal, which your butler will serve to you in your suite – or on your oceanview verandah. This option is also available for breakfast and lunch.
Because it’s Simply Marvelous
Admit it, you’ve wondered what it would be like to have a butler since watching Downton Abbey (or any other turn of the century movie or TV show). Well, now’s your chance to find out what it’s really like to have a butler at your beck and call. (Spoiler: It’s luxuriously wonderful!)
Other Suite Luxuries
Wondering what else is fabulous about sailing in a suite with Celebrity Cruises? In addition to the superior butler service, you’ll have access to the private gourmet restaurant, Luminae, which is only for suite guests plus access to swanky Michael’s Club, where you can get a well-crafted cocktail to enjoy before or after dinner.
May is here and that means an exciting time in the cruise world — the Alaska cruise season is underway. Alaska cruises are becoming more and more popular every year. Some sailings for 2016 have sold out, but if you’re ready to plan your last minute Alaska cruise this summer, you’re in luck as there is still some availability. Here’s how to best go about planning your Alaska cruise.
Choose Your Embarkation Port
One nice thing about Alaska cruises, particularly for those living on the west coast, is the ease with which passengers can get to the ship. Many west coasters are just a short flight away from Seattle or Vancouver, both of which are ports Celebrity Cruises sails out of. You can also fly a bit farther north and start or end your cruise right in Alaska.
How to decide between a more south or north departure port depends on what you’re most looking to get out of the cruise. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, would you prefer to save on airfare and drive or take the train to the harbor? Then a Seattle or Vancouver departure that is roundtrip may be best for you. Do you not mind a flight, but want to spend more of your vacation time right in the heart of Alaska? Then one of the one-way itineraries may be best for you; for example, you’ll depart from the port of Vancouver and then end your cruise all the way up in Seward, Alaska.
Prioritize Alaska Cruise Ports
Have you always dreamed of seeing the capital city of Juneau, or the charming stilted main street of Ketchikan? Make sure the cruise you choose stop in the ports you most want to see. If you’re having a hard time narrowing it down, a good way to figure out what you might enjoy most is to read through some of the shore excursion descriptions for each port — which port has the ones that sound most appealing to you? Pick an itinerary that includes as many of those ports as possible.
Choosing a Stateroom
When booking a last minute Alaska cruise, it’s helpful if you can be flexible on your travel dates. One benefit of booking earlier is a better choice of stateroom locations and categories. If you dream of staying in a verandah stateroom, but they’re all sold out for the sailing you’re looking at, consider another date. (Tip: a stateroom or suite with a verandah is the way to go on an Alaska cruise for those days sailing the straits and alongside glaciers when you’ll want to soak in as much of the view as possible!)
Book When There’s a Last Minute Alaska Cruise Deal
One benefit of waiting until the last minute to book an Alaska cruise is that there are often deals to be found! Check the Celebrity Cruises Specials page for current offers.
